Burundi is located on the shores of Lake Tanganyika in the heart of Africa. The country itself is in the shape of a human heart, but has been torn apart by civil strife.

Family Life Mission was started in 1989. Its goal was to serve the Lord in a ministry of counseling. It was never easy with financial support difficult to come by at the beginning. At first, ten years ago, our income was about 200 $US. It is now about 30 $US.

Then in 1993 violence flared between two tribal groups. The Hutu which were 85% and the Tutsi which were 14%. This violence continued until 2000, and although much has subsided, deep scars remain and when hundreds of thousands fled with perhaps as many as 250 thousand slain. These refugees have been slow to return, especially the professional which this country needs despertly to reestablish an economic basis.

Teachers are in short supply and only one in every four children go to school. Most of our financial support came from teachers. Our present support is very meager as most teachers fled the violence.

Our spiritual and physical needs are great. Over 10% of the adult population is HIV infected. They need the saving Gospel to bind up their wounds.

Our present work consists of counseling through seminars, workshops and individual appointments. We look to the telephone as a means to expand this counseling to individuals. Moneys are needed to make this possible. My prayer support team is praying that money may come in from outside Burundi as there is almost no money here for support.
